Baker and Cochrane Rivers (7 nights / 6 days)
Our operation focuses on the Baker and Cochrane river systems which are well recognized and sought out by the itinerant angler. This program is suitable for anglers of all skills that are looking to go off the grid for a while and explore lesser known trout habitat. Both rivers present dramatic natural scenery combined with outstanding fishing opportunities for resident browns and rainbows. These fisheries are at a short driving distances from each other and 165 miles southwest of Balmaceda airport - main airport in the Aysen state.
Baker: The Baker is the outlet of General Carrera Lake. Its turquoise waters flow for 106 miles through the rugged Andes mountains and native beech-tree forests to the Pacific Ocean. This fishery presents suitable waters for diverse aquatic life with serious match-the -hatch opportunities under the right conditions. Depending on the flows, the river can be walk/waded or floated. The summer season, and specially the months of January and February, often means the flow is high, so we turn to float trips on rafts and catarafts respectively.
Streamer fishing is definitely a good option that can reward the persistent angler with browns and rainbow over 20’. Regardless the size of the fish you capture, you will realize that Baker’s trout are powered with high stamina due to the amount of food and hydraulics present in the fishery.
Cochrane: The Cochrane flows southeast out of a lake that shares the same name. For 20 miles, this river presents pristine transparent waters until it empties into the Baker river. The different water structures found in the Cochrane provide the ideal spots for trout to dwell. For the most part, the Cochrane looks like a giant cristal-clear spring creek with excellent technical sight-fishing opportunities. During the summer months of January and
February, the fish are constantly looking up for terrestrials, creating the perfect arena for catching rainbows and browns on the surface.
Anglers that have the patience and educated eyes to spot these trout can be greatly rewarded, and have the experience of a lifetime stalking them. Just half an hour from the river, the Cochrane lake offers many
opportunities for terrestrial fishing with beetles and ants that often fall close to the banks and reeds. Our operation bases its Baker/Cochrane fishing itineraries on the prevailing water and weather conditions. We also teach different techniques that have proved effective in numerous times, making this destination a very diverse one that involves swinging streamers, dry dropper and match-the hatch fishing.
This trip is reserved for anglers of all skills. The fishing may take place on jet boats, rafts or walk/wade depending
on the destination and fishing conditions.
